Reiki for Stress, Pain, and Tension Relief
In our fast-paced world, stress, tension, and pain often become unwelcome companions in the background of our daily lives. Reiki offers a natural and holistic approach to finding relief by guiding the body into deep relaxation. During a session the nervous system settles and pain signals fade, allowing the body to shift into a state of healing. Reiki helps clear stagnant energy, restoring balance and promoting self-recovery. I know that energy healing is more than just a wellness trend - Reiki provides a pathway to greater ease and comfort, helping individuals reclaim a sense of well-being.
Over the past 3 years, I have worked with clients of all ages and genders and a common theme in most people is needing a release from stress, pain, and the tension. Here are some experiences I had with clients, with names changed for privacy reasons, and how Reiki helped with their pain, stress, and tension.
Margaret has scoliosis and the twisting of her spine causes a lot pain and tension. She booked a session with me looking for some relaxation and pain relief, and thought she would give Reiki a try. I was a newer practitioner then and was excited to work with her to see what kind of results she would get. During the 60 minute session, Margaret experienced very pronounced muscle spasms, twitches, and releases throughout her body, head, and face. This was something I had never experienced with a client before, and so, during a usually silent session, I felt I had to ask her if she was doing alright a few times. She always replied with a yes. At the end of the Reiki session, Margaret almost jumped off the massage table in excitement and expressed to me that she was amazed and elated with how relaxed and pain-free she felt and that it had been the first time in a number of years she felt like this. She then proceeded to give me a huge hug, and left with a few of my business cards.
Janelle is a very empathic and sensitive person, and felt that most of her life she had absorbed the energy of those around her to help them feel better, but she felt that this was somehow linked to her chronic pain. She also tended to have an overthinking mind that did not allow her to relax fully. She booked a 60 min Chakra Balancing session with me looking for some clearing and balancing. The session proceeded like a typical Chakra Balancing Reiki Session using crystals and intention to do lots of clearing and balancing. During the session I noticed that her heart chakra energy was wide open, too open - so much so that it seemed to only allow for love for others and not self-love. Pair this with a small, almost closed, Throat Chakra, indicating that she had a hard time expressing herself and her own needs, it made sense that stagnant energy was being trapped in her head and that she sometimes felt like her head and body were separate entities. I worked to balance her chakras and energy and to clear the energetic pathways in the body and aura to allow for better grounding and energy release. At the end of the session, she asked about my perspective of the session, and I explained what I had encountered and worked on. She then proceeded to tell me that during the session she had felt herself lift out of her body for a bit and return, and her ruminating thoughts were now no longer there. She felt clear-headed, and that during the session she felt releases, the shifts, and new energy in her body. She said she felt heavy, but like a good kind of relaxed heavy like an after-a-massage feeling. She left happy and relaxed, and she informed me later on that this had lasted a long time afterwards, providing a lot of relief.
I met Robert while I was volunteering at a local hospital doing 25 minute Reiki relaxation sessions for hospital staff. He had been recommended to see me by a colleague after they had had a good experience with me the previous week. He had been experiencing pain, stiffness, limited mobility, and tension in his left shoulder for about 5 years from a torn rotator cuff injury and had never had any kind of energy healing before. During the first 25 minute relaxation session, I worked to relax his nervous system and paid close attention to his shoulder. Within about 5 minutes, his arm, being by his side, had to move into an upward bend with his hand behind his head because of pain in his shoulder. I sprang into action and worked around the shoulder to clear energetic pathways allowing for the stagnant energy to release to be released, and then proceeded to work on the shoulder itself for a few minutes before returning to the rest of his body. After that short session, he told me that he felt some sort of energy shift in his shoulder that he couldn’t explain but it felt somehow better. I told him to keep an eye on it, and drink lots of water to continue the energy adjustments and detox process. The next week I came in and saw that he had booked with me again. Robert came into the centre and exclaimed loudly “I don’t know what you did but I was able to sleep through the night without pain in my shoulder!” He then proceeded to enthusiastically shake my hand and tell me how thankful he was. After that second session, he had about 2 more 25 minute sessions, and during the last one he was able to keep his arm alongside his body for the whole session without it being in pain and he saw this as a major win. Then his schedule was changed and I didn’t see him much after that.
Each of these clients had pains and stress that lead to tension and energy imbalances within the body and mind. I continue to be amazed by Reiki and my clients in their ability to self-heal and in welcoming this new way of working with their energy and I am so thankful that I got to be a part of their healing and wellness journeys, even if it was only for a short time, or even just one session.
Working with someone to release what pains them, and what causes them stress is a humble and sacred position to be in. Other than the small amount of information that a client writes in their booking form, I really am going into session without knowing much about my client. I make observations and discoveries during the session that often lead to clients opening up afterwards. And so I greatly appreciate when my clients open up after a session about what they felt or experiencing during, what brought them to seek out my help, and/or what they are experiencing currently in their life or have experienced, showing vulnerability and, then, also hope for the future. I am so truly grateful that I get to do this energy work and help facilitate healing, shifting, and growth in those that come to see me.
